I have many favorites for this title,- but this is one of the greatest ever!

I think, for me, the most powerful movie scene was in Lord of the Flies, the newer one.
Although the book portrayed it much better (they usually do), the scene where the kids kill Simon was intense.

And sorry if I have given spoilers to that book. I just figured most folks on here have read it by now.

Van Helsing:

When Helsing was fighting Dracula in there 'monster' forms. That was just epic.

Irreversible - rape scene
That, and the Fire Extinguisher scene, both messed with my head. That stuff was pretty intense.

The Wind that Shakes the Barley.
A truely moving film.
Especially for anyone who happens to be Irish.

I disagree with your choice of scenes in fightclub;

The Scene where he confesses to Marla that she came into his life at a very strange time and then all the buildings blow up and collapse, and they just hold hands and watch, is for lack of a better word; epic.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, shit that whole movie is powerful.

Philadelphia, when Tom hanks AIDS stricken character is accused of his blemishes being unnoticeable to his former bosses and thus he wasn't fired for fear of his AIDS, and is asked by his lawyer if any blemishes on his body currently are as visible as the one in question. He replies yes, and removes his shirt and shows the entire courtroom how horrifying AIDS really is, and wins the case.

Angels funeral in RENT where Collins sings the reprise of 'I'll cover you.' *tear.*

I think a lot of people are confusing 'powerful' cinema with just plain awesome. A lot of time's it goes hand in hand, but I'm going to vomit when someone brings up 'Scarface.'

ok, this might not be the most epic or visually intense scene, if i really sat down and thought about it i could probably think of some, but there are 2 movies that take the cake for puttin huge lumps in my throat, n misty eyes lol.

Deep Impact: saying good bye to their families (especially the blind guy n his kids rocket ship), and Armageddon: when bruce willis says good bye to his daughter.

if u need too, watch those movies again, not just those scenes, gotta watch the whole thing for the full effect.

also off the top of my head, some very hard hitting movies, Crash and Requiem For A Dream<--no happy ending

I'm surprised nobody else said Awakenings where Deniro's character goes into relapse.
It really was soul crushing.

Anyhoo, I always liked the scene in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, when the emperor is electrocuting Luke and it keeps cutting back to Darth Vader.
It's not really the scene itself, just what we can feel is going on behind that mask due to everything that's happened in the movies before that scene.

I'd have to say in the I am Legend movie.

Where he goes inside the building to get his dog back. Man right at the part where he aim the flashlight towards the monsters and then quickly covers it.

Damn, thats gotta be the most crazy position to be in lol. Thats gotta be my top.

For games: Aeris dying takes the cake
The ending of FFX is good too, but it doesn't have the impact because you know what's coming. The lake scene at night and the one in the Al bhed city are memorable as well.

For movies: Spock's death, luke finding out who vader really is, Luke's final battle with vader in the last movie, a personal one is Midway when the US catches the Japanese carriers off-guard.

Han being frozen in carbonite and when told by leia 'I love you.'
He responds with 'I know,' not, 'I love you too.'

That's class, the entire ending of Empire was probably the most powerful hook the Star Wars universe had, everything ended on such an awful, yet delightful, note.

I'll make him a offer he can't refuse.

There was something epic about it when he said that.

If you know the backstory to ALIENS (Cameron's film, the sequel to Scott's ALIEN), then you understand why Ripley's, "Get away from her, you BITCH!" line is so powerfully delivered.

Can't believe no one mentioned Roy Batty's lines at the end of Blade Runner! "I have seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched c-beams glitter in the dark at the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."

For sheer audacity value, the scene in Bridge Over the River Kwai, when the British PWs begin marching across, whistling Colonel Bogey's March is awesome.

The part in Call of Duty 4 where you're placed in the body of a man dying from radiation and you can slowly crawl out of the crashed helicopter to see the ruined city and the mushroom cloud before fading into death.

Also, at the start of the game, where you're the former president of wherever, getting executed.
